Three American Soybean Association members who serve on the World Initiative for Soy in Human Health committee traveled to Ghana recently.

Levi Huffman, Josh Neiderman and Stan Born discuss feed and poultry production with the owner of Unity Farms, Ibrahim Musa and the AMPLIFIES Ghana Deputy Chief of Party John Asabere. Unity farms feeds over 100,000 layers, raises goats, sheep and cattle, manages several ponds with floating fish feed consuming tilapia, and grows maize and cocoa.

E.L. Reed, Missouri; Levi Huffman, Indiana, and Stan Born, Illinois, travelled with WISHH staff to see feed manufacturers and poultry and egg production. The team visited two different companies with extruders made in the USA, and a larger feed mill that buys soybean meal, both local and imported. The group with a meeting in the port of Tema, with a Seaboard owned Ghana Flour Mills Company. This feed ingredient dealer and feed compounder imports wheat, soybean meal and, occasionally, yellow corn from the U.S., including 5,000 MT through a monetization program that will help fund the AMPLIFIES Ghana project.

Ghana is the  base of Subsaharan market development activities and the AMPLIFIES Ghana project, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food for Progress program.
