Soybean rust found in Alabama's Escambia County

More Asian soybean rust has been found in Alabama. “We found it in an Escambia County sentinel plot yesterday (Aug. 8),” said Ed Sikora, Alabama Extension plant pathologist on Tuesday afternoon.

“The soybeans were at R-5 at very low severity. However, 65 percent of the plants in the plot had symptoms.”

The Escambia County finding comes after earlier soybean rust discoveries in the state’s Baldwin County, Elmore County and on the Auburn University campus.

“Escambia County is just north of Baldwin County so it’s close to the Gulf. It was on a research station there.”
