Conservation and agricultural professionals from the public and private sectors gathered April 16 at the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul campus to discuss soil health at the Minnesota Office for Soil Health’s first stakeholder forum.
The Minnesota Office for Soil Health is a collaborative program created in 2017 by the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources in partnership with the University of Minnesota Water Resources Center, a department housed in the College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences.
MOSH’s mission is to improve soil resources and water quality by developing the knowledge, skills and abilities of local government staff and agriculture professionals to more effectively promote sustainable soil and land management.
Forum attendees explored the development of a state Soil Health Action Plan and engaged in small-group discussions on a range of soil health issues. Farmer organizations in attendance included Minnesota Corn, Minnesota Milk, Minnesota State Cattlemen, Minnesota Soybean, the Land Stewardship Project and the Sustainable Farming Association.
