Portable wet-dry vacuum
Clean up any mess in your shop or machine shed with the new, portable, 2-gal. wet-dry vacuum from DeWalt. The DC500 runs off 12-, 14.4- and 18v battery packs (not included) or it can be plugged into a 120v AC electrical outlet. The vacuum produces ample power to pick up concrete dust, fasteners, water, sawdust, wood chips, drywall and other debris. The vacuum uses a wet-dry filter designed by the inventors of Gore-Tex products. The washable and reusable filter traps 99.7% of dust particles inside the vacuum, according to DeWalt. The vacuum includes a detachable 6-ft. hose that can be connected to the exhaust port to turn the vacuum into a blower.

Suggested retail price for the DC500, including wide nozzle and crevice tool attachment, is $99. For more information, call 800/433-9258, visit or

Wire-feed welder for light jobs
The new Hobart Handler 125 is similar to the Handler 135, except that it comes in a smaller case and weighs only 50 lbs. The unit has a built-in wire feeder and preassembled, 8-ft.-long torch. It comes ready to weld with or without shielding gas and operates off standard 115v household current. This welder is meant for light maintenance and repair jobs around the farm, especially for welding sheet metal.

Wire-feed flux-cored welding works well for many farm applications because it works better than metal inert gas (MIG) on dirty or rusty metal and there is no need for shielding gas when using self-shielding wires.

The 125 can use .023- or .030-in. solid wire and 75% argon/25% CO2 shielding gas (sometimes called C-25) to weld 22-gauge to ⅛-in. steel. It produces a clean weld with less splatter. It also works with “tri-mix” gas and stainless wire to weld 12- to 16-gauge stainless steel.

Price for the Handler 125 is $384. Contact Hobart Welders, Dept. FIN, Box 100, Lithonia, GA 30058, 800/332-3281, visit or

Comfy creeper
Work under vehicles in comfort with the new Bone-ster mechanic's creeper. According to the manufacturer, the creeper is constructed of molded polymer to be smooth, comfortable and cooler than solid models. The polymer resists gas, oil and solvent stains while being durable and lightweight. The creeper rolls the worker under vehicles just 1 in. above the ground on durable wheels.

The Bone-ster is 43 in. long and 233/8 in. wide. It sells for $89.95 and is available at auto and truck tool and equipment dealerships. Contact Pegasus Products Co., Dept. FIN, 315 Gougler Ave., Kent, OH 44240, 330/677-4030, visit

Protect stored engines
Stop corrosion in stored engines with Sta-Bil fogging oil and cylinder protector from Gold Eagle Company. The new oil is designed for off-season protection of any 2- and 4-cyl. engines. The additive is formulated to go deep into the engine, seeking metal surfaces to form a protective coating, according to the company. It lubricates cylinder walls to prevent scuffing at start-up after storage. The fogging oil is safe to use for carbureted and fuel-injected gasoline engines, boats, cars, tractors, snowmobiles and ATVs.

The 12-oz. aerosol retails for $3.99 and is available at Mills Fleet Farm, Blain Farm Fleet and Tractor Supply, and many auto parts stores. Contact Gold Eagle Co., Dept. FIN, 4400 S. Kildare, Chicago, IL 60632, 800/367-3245, visit or
