If you have resources on your farm that you've always wanted to market, an ag development group in Nebraska lets you list those resources on a new Web site for $7.50/year and arranges for liability insurance. The Kearney Area Ag Producers Alliance (KAAPA) formed the online service, called Country-Adventures, to provide rural residents the opportunity to generate revenue from resources they already have.

“We know that consumers are looking for experiences that are rural, unique and real,” says Marge Lauer, marketing director for Country-Adventures. “Consumers can shop for lodging, events, products and adventures all at one place.”

Current listings include hunting grounds; fishing trips; horseback riding; lodging; farmer-for-a-day adventures; clay shooting and archery range; waterfowl hunting classes; and farm, ranch, feedlot and dairy tours.

“One of the unique things we make available is liability insurance for the event or adventure purchased,” Lauer says. “Liability has always been a stumbling block for those wanting to get into agri-tourism. This is something that has never been done before.”

The Web site went live last October. Since then the company has received more than 100 listings from farmers and ranchers from states across the Midwest. “We are also starting to aggressively market to the consumer to buy these agri-tourism events and items,” Lauer says.

The annual listing fee is $7.50/year. Insurance quotes are $1.00/quote. Fees for marketing, administration and insurance premiums are deducted from the selling price of each listing after the product or service has been purchased.
