Roundtable discussions added to conservation tillage meeting

In addition to breakout sessions featuring more than 70 researchers and producers, roundtable discussions on nine different topics have been added to the 2004 National Conservation Tillage Cotton and Rice Conference.

The event, which alternates yearly between the Southwest and Mid-South, will be held Jan. 15-16 at the Grand Casino Resort Center at Tunica, Miss.

It is sponsored by MidAmerica Farm Publications, with Farm Press Publications as media co-sponsor.

“In our breakout sessions, we have both a researcher and a producer making presentations,” says John LaRose, MidAmerica president. “For the '04 conference, we'll also have roundtable discussions, with a leading expert discussing a particular topic. The subject matter will be more focused, and the expert will facilitate discussions on the topic.”

The discussions will be open to anyone in the audience, he notes. “We want participants to feel free to bring their questions and problems for discussion by the expert and other producers. This will provide an opportunity for discussion that goes beyond the information presented in the breakout sessions.”

Discussion topics will be Conservation Tillage Rice — Weed Control; Precision Landforming for Conservation Tillage; Conservation Tillage Rice Establishment; Fertilizer Placement Equipment for Conservation Tillage Cotton.

Also, Conservation Tillage Cotton Weed Control; Cover Crops; Precision Agriculture; Conservation Tillage Funding Support, Equipment, and CSP; and Conservation Tillage Planter Attachments for a Good Seed Environment.

The seventh annual event will also feature sessions on corn, soybeans, and precision agriculture.

Cotton Incorporated and the US Rice Producers Association are partners in the production of the conference.
