The LSU AgCenter will conduct rice field days in Evangeline and Jefferson Davis parishes in May.

The Evangeline Parish field day will be held May 25 at 8 a.m., at the B&R Farm on Reeton Road. Presentations will include fertility and insect control.

The tour will then travel to the Bieber Farms, a mile west of Mamou on Bieber Road, for updates on new variety development, the current growing season, herbicide application, fungicides and the current rice market.

The southwest rice tour will begin at 8 a.m., May 26 at the Fenton Coop on U.S. Highway 165 and continue to the Jimmy Hoppe farm for information on varieties, weed control, disease management and fertilization.

The tour will then move to the Mark Pousson farm north of Welsh for a presentation on insect control and then go to the Welsh Community Center for an industry update and lunch.

Field days in Acadia and Vermilion parishes will be held in June, followed by the Rice Research Station field day July 1 and a rice field day in Richland Parish in July.
