Large body of basic research looking for an application

Scientists have made an amazing amount of discoveries through basic research projects in the last 20 years.

Susan McCouch, professor in the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics at Cornell University, says it’s time to take the next step – applying those discoveries to improving crop production.

Dr. McCouch, who was a member of the team that developed the first molecular map for rice, said members of her audience at the LSU AgCenter's H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station Field Day will help make many of those applications.
