A Tuesday Rice Research Verification Field Tour will showcase new Arkansas research and management techniques. Sponsored by theUniversity of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, the tour will depart the Rice Research and Extension Center in Stuttgart, Ark., at 8 a.m.

“On this tour we will be seeing new and updated research on the N-Star soil test recommendation for rice,” says Ralph S. Mazzanti, rice agronomist with the university.“We have a recommendation for silt loam soils which was introduced this year on grower farms as well as the rice research verification fields.”

The Tuesday tour will show N-Star “research being done on clay soils helping researchers finalize a nitrogen clay correlation recommendation hopefully in the near future.”

The first tour stop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at a Shannon Rogers field 7 miles south of Lodge Corner on Highway 276 towards Reydell. Turn left on Highway 11 field at the intersection of Highway 11 and 343.

From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. the group will be at a Mike Dodson/Park Eldridge verification field. To reach the field, travel Highway 165 five miles south of Gillett, Pipkin Road.

Following lunch, the tour will pick up at the Joe Mencer Farmin Chicot County at 1:30 p.m. Travel Highway 35 six miles southeast of Halley. At 2:15 p.m., the soil nitrogen test/Chicot County clay correlation will be discussed.
