The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) has announced the sponsoring agencies of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) in Nevada.

Sponsoring agencies are located in Carson City and Churchill, Clark, Douglas, Lyon and Washoe counties and serve nutritious meals and snacks to children and adults receiving services in their facilities. In addition, one statewide sponsor and several Head Start agency sponsors exist across the state.

The program provides reimbursement to child and adult care centers, family or group day care homes, before- and afterschool programs, homeless children in emergency shelters, and Head Start programs for nutritious meals that contribute to wellness, healthy growth, and development of children of all ages, and the health and wellness of older adults and chronically impaired disabled persons.

Sponsors of CACFP must ensure that participants are eligible based on the household income of each individual. Foster children or children who are members of a household receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), and Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservation (FDPIR)automatically meet the free meal category. Children in Head Starts, At-Risk Afterschool Meals Programs and Emergency Shelters for Homeless Children are not required to complete household income forms. Participating adults in day care who are members of SNAP households, Supplemental Security Income, FDPIR or Medicaid recipients also automatically meet the guidelines for the free meal category. Facilities that participate in the CACFP do not discriminate against any participant because of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
