Food and agriculture secretary has been reappointed by new Gov. Gavin Newsom.

On Tuesday evening  newly seated Gov. Gavin Newsom released a statement reappointing California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross to her existing position.

The decision pleased Joel Nelsen, president of California Citrus Mutual.

“The secretary has been a staunch supporter of our industry and specifically the (Asian citrus psyllid/huanglongbing) program,” Nelsen says.  “I have had the pleasure of working with Karen as a colleague with the Wine Grape Growers Association, as Chief of Staff to USDA Secretary Vilsack in the Obama Administration, and for the past eight years in the Brown administration.  She understands our industry and our issues.

"Kudos to the governor, and thank you to Karen for staying aboard.”
