John Deere today unveiled the newest additions to its John Deere FarmSight precision farming line, designed to enable machine-to-machine communications and remote diagnostics capabilities. FarmSight is an infrastructure that eventually will allow machinery to drive itself, makes its own adjustments, and will allow the owner to run it remotely from his iphone or other mobile device.

Remote Display Access, a new software feature, lets farm owners, managers and dealers view from their computers or smartphones the operator’s cab display screen. John Deere says remote access will eliminate unnecessary trips to the field because supervisors can see if equipment is operating correctly from afar. They also can provide training and troubleshoot issues from a remote location.

Farmers interested in Remote Display Access will need to have the GreenStar 3 2630 Display, JDLink telematics hardware, JDLink subscription with Remote Display Access, and an Ethernet cable to connect the display to the JDLink Modular Telematics gateway (MTG) hardware.

Equipment and production data can now be managed and stored on a new Web portal called MyJohnDeere.com, another new FarmSight component. Farm managers, dealers and consultants who are given access to the portal will be able to view real-time information about their farm operations, field locations and performance data from equipment.

Also new is an upgraded GPS receiver called StarFire 300, which now uses GLONASS satellites to provide up to 2-in. accuracy 95% of the time.

Finally, a new device designed for John Deere self-propelled forage harvesters lets users analyze the nutrient content of silage and make adjustments during or after the silage cutting. The system, called John Deere Harvest Lab, uses near-infrared technology to measure the nutrient content to ensure the silage feed has the highest nutrient value for livestock.

John Deere will demonstrate these products at its research farm outside of Des Moines. Pricing is expected to be released at that time.
