Multi Farming Systems, an Australian manufacturer of giant no-till drills, is setting up operations in North America. The company’s largest model, the 160-ft. Multiplanter, holds the Guinness World Record for the most acres seeded in 24 hrs., set at 2,237 acres. The company plans to bring a smaller model, a 30-ft. version, along with an eight-wheel rock rake, to the U.S. for customers to test this spring.

“We have a number of farmers interested in trialing our Multiplanter against their existing air drills and row-crop planters so they can see how it performs in their specific conditions,” says company representative Kris Trevilyan.

Trevilyan says that, while the Multiplanter is known for its size, what sets it apart from other products is its versatility. It can be used as a row-crop planter or no-till air drill and is able to deliver accurate seed depth placement across undulating ground and varying soil conditions. The same machine also can be used as a chisel plow or cultivator just by changing the ground-engaging tips.

“The Multiplanter will perform all these functions exceptionally well, effectively replacing four different types of machines with one,” Trevilyan says. “This gives the farmer options, but most importantly saves them a lot of money by not having to buy a number of different machines.”

Each unit is custom built. All models are light to pull, enabling a significant reduction in horsepower and fuel.

“The Multiplanter has been perfected over the last 25 years,” Trevilyan adds, “and we feel that the North American farmer is now having to look at alternatives in terms of cuttings costs and being more efficient.”
