At Pima Summit: Knit exec is guest speaker

Robert Jacobson, sales manager for Shara-Tex, Vernon, Calif., a premier manufacturer of high-quality cotton knit fabrics made from San Joaquin Valley Pima cotton, will be the keynote luncheon speaker at this year's Pima Summit, May 23, at the Visalia Convention Center, Visalia, Calif.

Since Shara-Tex's inception in 1985 it has gained a reputation for being the premier knitting mill for innovative and high quality fabrics on the West Coast, including many products containing Pima cotton yarn.

Shara-Tex's customer base ranges from the newest, up-and-coming designers to major apparel manufacturers worldwide.

Supima, one of the sponsors of the May 23 conference, arranged for Jacobson to speak. Other summit sponsors include Western Farm Press, California Cotton Ginners and Growers Associations and the University of California.

The free conference will open with registration and continental breakfast at 8 a.m. with the first speaker scheduled for 9 a.m. The luncheon is free and will feature the talk by Jacobson.

The morning program will feature presentations by University of California and USDA specialist including:

  • Pima Production Practice Strategies: PGR use, IPM issues, Irrigation-Comparisons with Acala Production (Bob Hutmacher, UCCE Shafter)

  • Plant Mapping Tools and Hardware (Brian Marsh, UCCE Shafter REC and UCCE Kern County)

  • Germplasm Improvements — USDA (Mauricio Ulloa and others, USDA Shafter)

  • UC And Consultant Panel — Discussion of Survey of Knowledge Base for Pima Production and Research Needs (Pete Goodell and others)

Also on the program will be reports on industry trends and topics:
