A warehouse full of this year’s peanuts caught fire around noon in downtown Donalsonville, Ga., Oct. 15.

Rome Ethredge, University of Georgia Extension coordinator in Seminole County and based in Donalsonville, says in his blog:

“We’ve lost a nice peanut warehouse in Donalsonville to fire. It’s the old Beall Peanut Company warehouse that had a capacity of a whole lot of peanuts. Reports are that it was pretty full of this year’s just-harvested peanuts belonging to Session’s Peanut Company.  It’s close to downtown and our Extension office. The fortunate thing is that there have been no reported injuries or fatalities. Firefighters and public safety officers are doing a good job keeping things contained. … The whole town smells like burnt peanuts."
