Graham Ginn was supposed to get his plaque for being the 2019 Farm Press Peanut Efficiency Award Winner from the lower Southeast during the Farm Press awards breakfast at the annual Southern Peanut Growers Conference in Panama City, Fla., back in July.

Ginn, his wife, Julie, and children, Jackson and Anna Grace, were there at the conference as guests of Farm Press. About an hour before the awards program, as the Ginn family readied for the event, Jackson, 14, passed out cold, which, understandably, took the family by complete surprise. The emergency changed plans for them that day, and they missed the award program.

As a testament to how the agricultural family can rally and care about its collective members, after the awards breakfast and since, many folks have asked me how Graham’s son is doing.

A lot of prayers and finding a good doctor, Ginn said, got the medical issues figured out and in the rearview mirror. Jackson is back to his old self, playing football and all.

On Oct. 10, two and a half months after the initial event, we finally got to personally present the award plaque to Ginn on his farm in Calhoun County located in southwest Georgia.

In this Facebook video, Graham and I talk more about what happened at the awards breakfast, the 2019 crop, and we revisit why 2018 was a harvest season nobody in the area will forget.

By chance, the day I visited Graham to present the plaque was also the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Michael’s devastation to the area.

Good luck. Take care, and thanks for reading and watching.
