Perennial peanut, a versatile and nutritious forage sometimes called “Florida’s alfalfa,” will take the spotlight Saturday, June 6 at the 9th Annual Perennial Peanut Producers Field Day, held in Moultrie, Ga.

The event, co-sponsored by the University of Florida and the University of Georgia, takes place from 9 a.m. until approximately 2:30 p.m. on the Sunbelt Expo site.

Newcomers and experienced perennial peanut growers alike can benefit by attending. The program includes a research update, field tour and demonstration of equipment, and presentations on establishing perennial peanut, marketing hay, controlling weeds and using perennial peanut as an ornamental plant.

A legume native to South America, perennial peanut is grown on about 40,000 acres in the Southeast, said Clay Olson, Taylor County Extension director.
