The Southern Peanut Growers Conference will be held July 18-20, 2013 at the EdgewaterBeach Resort, Panama City Beach, Fla.

The three-day event provides farmers an opportunity to learn more about the industry and issues affecting them, while also enjoying a relaxing time at the beach.

In addition to the conference sessions, the event focuses on the family by offering a ladies program and a golf tournament.

This year’s theme is simply “Sustainability.” One definition of this word is “able to be maintained,” which should be the focus for the peanut industry.

General sessions at the conference will bring to light some of the important topics for today’s peanut growers, such as Maintaining Market Growth, Innovations for Sustainability, Production Sustainability, and Sustaining Farm Policy.

Guest speakers will include: Congressman Mike Conaway (R-Texas), Anne Marie DeLorenzo — M&M/Mars, George Birdsong — Birdsong Peanuts, and Jim Wieisemeyer — political analyst for agriculture.

Registration and other information can be found at http://www.southernpeanutfarmers.org/spgc.asp.
