Georgia peanut farmers facing short dryland crops

October 19, 2011

Georgia’s dryland farmers are facing the probability of short crops following the severe drought conditions of 2011. Farmers who can irrigate are likely to fare somewhat better, particularly with the higher commodity prices nationwide, according to Billy Skaggs. Skaggs, who filled in for an ailing Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black also discussed a report on farm labor shortages his department is preparing for Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and the state legislature. The interview took place during an update session at the Sunbelt Ag Expo.
