Walnut and peach orchards along the Feather River in California's Sacramento Valley continue to show signs of collapse, the effect of floods that inundated orchards from January through May.

Researchers with the University of California and U.S. Department of Agriculture have sampled orchards for evidence of Phytophthora, a water fungus present in the river systems in the region.

For some growers, the impact from the floods may not be fully realized until later this season or later, according to Janine Hasey, farm advisor with the University of California Cooperative Extension.
