The Hass Avocado Board (HAB) has elected its 2015 slate of officers. Producer James Johnson was chosen as chairman of the board; producer Bob Schaar as vice-chairman; importer Mike Parr as secretary; and importer Chris Henry treasurer.
Other new directors seated during the annual meeting include: producers Thomas Escalante and Laurie Luschei; and importer David Fausset.
Two directors were reappointed including producer Bob Schaar and importer Chris Henry.
The directors were elected by Hass avocado importers and producers and appointed to the board by USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack.
The following new alternates were also seated: producers Michael Adams, Linda Mullins, Lyle Kafader, Custodio Aguilar, and Jim Swoboda; plus importers Jorge Hernandez and Gahl Crane. They were also elected by importers and producers and appointed by the USDA.
“We look forward to another immensely productive year,” said Emiliano Escobedo, HAB’s executive director. “We work hard to increase the collaboration between growers, importers and handlers to create a successful market place.”
HAB thanked outgoing board members for their dedication and service to the avocado industry including: producers Ed Embly and Casimir Wytaniec; importer Isabel Freeland; and producer Will Carleton.
