After finding success in solar on another property they owned, California avocado growers Eric Bartolotto and Patti Breyfogle opted to add solar to their farming operation in the Santa Clara River Valley.

Bartolotto and Breyfogle own 2B Green Farms near Fillmore, Calif. Through their commitment to environmentally friendly, energy efficient farming, the pair installed a 25 kilowatt (kW) solar power system that will run the irrigation and other systems, and effectively reduce their power demand from the grid to near zero.

The pair hired SunPower by Green Convergence, a solar installer and roofing contractor from Valencia.

The final product was a renovated roof and restoration of their mid-century modern house to its architectural beauty, as well as a reliable rooftop solar installation that meets the energy needs of the owners’ home and the orchard.

They grow avocados without herbicides or pesticides and hand-pick the fruit for direct shipment. Using his engineering and plumbing expertise, Bartolotto installed efficient irrigation systems throughout the farm, reducing water consumption by 50 percent.
