California’s all-orange forecast for 2014-15 is projected to be 101 million cartons of fruit, a 1 percent improvement over last season’s revised final utilization.

The all-orange crop includes 81 million cartons of Navel and 20 million cartons of Valencia. The Valencia numbers are forecast to be 9 percent lower than last season while Navel numbers are expected to be up 4 percent.

Lemon harvest is projected to be 38 million cartons; eight million cartons of grapefruit should be picked.

Of the citrus varieties sampled by the National Agricultural Statistics Service, tangerines (including tangelos and mandarins) should see the largest jump in harvested tonnage – up 10 percent from the previous year.

NASS is projecting the tangerine harvest to be 32 million cartons.
