Odor control for lagoons

The new Tornado Aerator from Aeromix Systems promises easy installation, low maintenance and a better aeration system. University of Minnesota tests showed that use of the aerator reduced odor levels by as much as 75 percent.

The aerator sits on a cradle between two pontoons and is mounted on the lagoon surface. Aeration and mixing are done below the surface to eliminate added air odors or icing. The unit can be set shallow to provide an air cap, making aeration aerobic, or oxygen rich, to help absorb noxious odors from the anaerobic zone at the bottom of the basin.

The unit is installed by clamping it to a cable that is strung across the basin; a power line runs from the unit to a receptacle.

Testing also showed a reduction in odors from reclaimed water when the aerator was used for barn flushing. Price: approximately 5,000 dollars. Contact Aeromix Systems Inc., Dept. FIN, 2611 N. 2nd St., Minneapolis, MN 55411, 800/879-3677.
