Oct. 4 at Community Center: Salinas show exhibitor list tops 100

More than 100 exhibitors are expected to be at the fourth annual Salinas Valley Farm Show Oct. 4 at the Salinas Community Center, Salinas, Calif.

Managed exclusively this year by the Gonzales Young Farmers, show chairman Don Ostini, a longtime member of the Gonzales Young Farmers said the event has gained widespread community support.

“This is not just a farm show, but a community event dedicated to Salinas Valley agriculture,” said Ostini.

Show hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There also will be two educational components. One will be a morning seminar on the emerging applications of Global Positioning System technology in agriculture. This will be directed by Salinas agricultural consultant John Inman (a retired UCEE engineering farm advisor.)

The Monterey Bay chapter of the California Agricultural Production Consultants Association (CAPCA) also will present a continuing education seminar for licensed Pest Control Advisors in the afternoon.

There also will be an afternoon forklift rodeo with cash prizes to the winners.

Western Farm Press is a co-sponsor and will be providing a show program.

The Gonzales Young Farmers began more than 60 years ago. Today Young Farmers give more than $7,500 annually in scholarships and provide manpower and financial resources for community events like the Gonzales Community Fair and Monterey County Fair Livestock Judging Contest. Proceeds from the Salinas Valley Farm Show will be used to fund the Young Farmers' work.
