Northern Lights

Northern Lights

The other evening we were flying into Calgary, Alberta, and the captain of the plane suggested we look out the window. Wow! The whole sky in the northeast was full of streams of light. Growing up in Upstate New York we had light shows from time to time. I can remember sitting on the hood of my ’67 Corvette at 3:00 a.m. watching the lights. The only bad thing was that milking started an hour and a half later at 4:30 a.m.!

Perspectives from Canada

Some farmers and ranchers in the Prairie Provinces are selling water rights at $150-200/acre rather than growing crops and using the water. They actually find this to be more profitable.

Canadian producers are very concerned that we will close the border and tariffs in trade will increase with the U.S., their biggest trading partner. The word in Canada is that we talk the talk on global economics, but we don’t walk the talk.

To readers of the Web site, I personally have concerns toward the current administration’s protection attitude; first it was steel, then lumber, now possibly agricultural products. Protectionism led to the current depression so we have to be very concerned.

In Canada, one of our biggest trading partners, debt to income levels are at an all-time high, raising concern by the banking industry and economists with our neighbors of the North.

Movie Review

If you get a chance to see the movie "The Rookie," I highly recommend it. It is a clean, real life movie of a determined vet making it in the big leagues.
