Hardee's and Carl's Jr. Go Stall-Free

Hardee's and Carl's Jr. Go Stall-Free

The restaurants join many others in the transition to suppliers using group housing.

CKE Restaurants, parent company of Hardee's and Carl's Jr. restaurants, announced today a commitment to purchase pork from suppliers that do not use gestation stalls to house pregnant sows. The company plans to phase in the supply change completely by 2022.

The Carpinteria, Calif., company began the transition to suppliers that use group housing five years ago, but is now accelerating the move.

"CKE Restaurants, Inc. supports the humane treatment of animals, having requested its pork suppliers to develop practical and sustainable alternatives to the use of gestation stalls and to transition to a group housing environment for sows," the company said in a statement today.

Hardee's and Carl's Jr. join many other restaurants in the transition to suppliers using group housing.

CKE joins a host of other retail and restaurant chains that have pledged to serve "crate-free" pork, including Cracker Barrel, Kroger, and Sonic.
