Newpath herbicide registered by EPA

Newpath herbicide has received Section 3 registration for use on Clearfield rice from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Previously, Newpath was used under a 24C special local needs registration in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri and Mississippi.

The registration includes label changes that will give rice producers broader application options, including the removal of crawfish restrictions from the label.

Pending the approval of the second generation Clearfield rice trait in CL 161 and the hybrid Clearfield XL 8, Newpath label changes will enable rice producers planting varieties and hybrids with enhanced tolerance to use Newpath in:

• Sequential postemergence applications.

• Clear water-seeded rice.

• An application with oil.

The second generation Clearfield rice trait is currently under routine review for food and feed use by Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The first generation Clearfield rice trait, in CL 121 and CL 141, was approved by both agencies in 2002.

The Clearfield Production System for rice is a unique cropping system comprised of herbicide-tolerant rice varieties, Newpath herbicide to manage red rice and other tough weeds in rice, and a stewardship agreement with growers to insure system sustainability.
