New products for truck beds

Aesthetics aside, protecting the surface of your truck's bed will help eliminate scratches and dents from toolboxes, parts and even hogs that can lead to corrosion. You'll also save your nerves from the noise made from items banging around in the back of your pickup while you're headed down a bumpy road.

First in the field. From the original maker of the bed liner comes a helpful idea for adding storage to liners. The high-density, polyethylene Duraliner X/L features two covered storage boxes that are molded as part of the liner.

Positioned close to the tailgate for easy reach, the boxes feature approximately 2 cu. ft. of storage space.

The liner features antiskid floors, step-down corners and a ribbed floor design that reduces moisture buildup under the liner. A protective cushion keeps the liner from shifting in the bed and also reduces vibration and noise. The storage compartments can be locked for security. Price: $270. Circle 226.

The company also introduces the Cargo Pro. It is a 4-in.-deep tray that is as wide and as long as the truck bed. The tray is mounted on aluminum framework and features ball bearings that roll the tray out past the tailgate. The unit can hold 1,000 lbs., weighs 195 lbs. and retails for $600 to $800, depending on size. Contact Durakon Industries, Dept. FIN, 2101 N. Lapeer Rd., Lapeer, MI 48446, 810/664-0850, or circle 227.

Not just a cargo bar. The Loading Zone Cargo Gate, made of hardened plastic, nylon and aluminum, keeps cargo in its place with just a snap of a lock. No tools are required to mount the gate; tension holds it against the side rails of the bed. It comes with extra foot jacks so you can adjust the height of the unit to accommodate bed liners. Suggested retail price: $110. Contact Loading Zone, Dept. FIN, 3500 Western Ave., Highland Park, IL 60035, 847/926-0977, owww.loading or circle 228.
