Alltech donated a Keenan MechFiber 320 feed mixer to the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation Prime Time Gala in support of Feeding South Dakota. “We understand the impact that an event such as the Prime Time Gala has not only on our state, but our local community,” said CJ Tanderup, Alltech regional sales manager. “We are proud to donate the Keenan mixer wagon to a great cause in order to raise money for those in need and to show our support for the South Dakota beef industry.” Since the first Prime Time Gala in June 2014, over $501,000 has been raised for Feeding South Dakota to purchase over 361,804 pounds of beef. North Dakota selects new Dairy Princess

Heidi Jacob, 18, daughter of Gerard and Lori Jacob of Linton, was recently crowned North Dakota’s 70th State Dairy Princess. Jacob graduated from Linton High School in May and currently works on her family’s dairy farm near Linton. She plans to attend Bismarck State College in the fall, studying secondary education.

DAIRY PRINCESS: Heidi Jacob, Linton, N.D., the new North Dakota Dairy Princess, will spend the year being an ambassador for the state’s dairy farmers.

At Linton High School, Jacob was active in Future Business Leaders of America; Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; basketball; volleyball; choir and National Honor Society. She earned multiple honors in those activities. She was also selected to serve on the State Youth Advisory Council for North Dakota Farmers Union. She was selected based on an application, answers to essay questions, her interview skills and ability to advocate for dairy farmers. Jacob will spend her year serving as the official ambassador for the state’s dairy farmers, advocating and educating on their behalf. She will make public appearances including media interviews, classroom appearances, dairy events and fairs.

Beef staffer earns dietitian award

Holly Swee, South Dakota Beef Industry Council director of nutrition, has been selected as one of the Outstanding Dietitians of the Year by the South Dakota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Recipients must demonstrate competency and leadership in national, state or district dietetic association activities; concern for promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population; and leadership in the dietetics profession. They also must exemplify ADA's Standard of Professional Responsibility. "We are so proud of Holly," says Suzy Geppert, SDBIC executive director. "Her passion for this industry is reflected in all she does. Holly spends countless hours representing us across the state and is a true advocate for not only our beef producers, but also for the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle."
