Commission approves $25 million North Dakota Mill expansion

North Dakota Mill expanding
The North Dakota Industrial Commission recently okayed a $25 million expansion project for the North Dakota Mill. The state-owned mill will build four 250,000-bushel grain bins and add 18,000 feet of track to accommodate longer trains.

Safe grain elevators
The Grain Elevator and Processing Society recently recognized 32 Agtegra Cooperative locations with safety awards. The awards are given to facilities that did not have any lost-time injuries or illnesses during 2017. Locations receiving awards include: Aberdeen, Alpena, Bath Agronomy, Berlin, Bristol, Carpenter, Chamberlain, Columbia, Eldridge, Oakes, Frederick, Highmore, Huron Agronomy, Huron Grain, Kennebec Agronomy, Kennebec Grain, Kimball, Langford, Mansfield, Mellette, Miller, Redfield Agronomy, Redfield Energy, Redfield Grain, Roscoe, St. Lawrence, Stickney, Tulare, Willow Lake, Wolsey Agronomy, Wolsey Grain, and Woonsocket.

South Dakota FFA Star award winners
Five South Dakota FFA members were recently recognized for their Supervised Agricultural Experience projects. The award winners are:

Star Farmer — Justus Gregg, Winner FFA. Gregg raises cattle and rents 160 acres.

Star in Agribusiness — Landon Sivertsen, Miller FFA. He hopes to own a horse training business.

Star in Ag Placement — Travis Leber, Parker FFA. Leber operates a custom hay business, marketing to local dairy farms.

Star in AgriScience — Callie Mueller, Florence FFA. Mueller studied the link between horse facial characteristics and their dispositions.

Star Greenhand — Hadley Stiefvater, McCook Central FFA. She has six head of cattle, 20 sheep, 60 laying hens, 43 sows and piglets, plus pigeons, pheasants, guineas, ducks and turkeys. She also works at her family’s vet clinic.

North Dakota Soybean Council personnel changes
Stephanie Sinner, who has been the North Dakota Soybean Council marketing director since 2013, is the new NDSC executive director. Mike Schlosser and Chris Brossart are newly elected NDSC directors. Schlosser, of Edgeley, will represent district three, which includes LaMoure and Dickey counties. Brossart, of Wolford, will represent District 11, which includes 13 counties in northwestern North Dakota. Joe Morken, Casselton, and Levi Taylor, Ypsilanti, were re-elected the NDSC board.
