Mississippi Farm Bureau honors former president

DON WALLER, a Lafayette County, Miss., cotton and tree farmer, was named to receive the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation's Distinguished Service Award at the organization's annual meeting in Jackson.

Waller, a former president of the Mississippi Farm Bureau, and his wife, Patsy, were presented the award by David Waide, Farm Bureau president.

“You know him as a dedicated Christian, as a devoted husband and father, and as a professional farmer who has given unselfishly of himself in serving as a leader since 1952,” said Waide. “You recognized him as a good and capable man and elected him to lead this organization for eight years.

“Under his leadership, Farm Bureau in Mississippi continued to grow and maintain its strength and respect as an effective voice for Mississippi's farmers.”

Waide also gave Waller credit for leading the charge to adopt the Boll Weevil Eradication Program in Mississippi, which has led to the virtual eradication of the costly cotton pest.
