McCormick introduces new tractor series

McCormick introduces a new MB series of tractors designed for loader, light tillage and general farm work. The MB 55 features a Perkins 3-cyl. 1100-series diesel engine with 53 hp. The MB 65 and 85 feature a Perkins 4-cyl. 1100-series diesel engine with 62 and 74 hp, respectively. The MB 65 and 85 are available with 2-wd or front wheel assist.

Tom Ogle, McCormick product manager, explains these “value tractors” are for customers who don’t want to buy the highest priced or highest horsepower model but still want a tractor with all the desired features such as hydrostatic power steering and synchronized shuttle.

Engine, transmission

In the engine, the cross-flow cylinder head positions the intake and exhaust manifolds on opposite sides, preventing inlet air from preheating. According to the company, the engines meet Tier 2 emission requirements, are fuel-efficient, run quieter and have high torque rise capabilities. Glow plug preheaters installed in the engine ensure quick starting in cold weather.

Two transmission options are offered. The standard synchromesh-shuttle features 12 forward and reverse speeds up to 18.6 mph. The optional transmission with creep offers 24 forward and 12 reverse speeds as low as .17 mph. Both transmissions include a four-speed gearbox for directional changes.

All three models come equipped with a dual plate clutch independent of the main drive clutch it fits into. A standard rear differential lock is engaged by a foot pedal and released by removing pressure on the same pedal. Optional hydraulic front and rear differential locks are engaged together by pressing the foot pedal. The brake pedal releases the locks. The front lock is used to ensure solid traction on all wheels.

A standard 540-rpm and ground speed PTO is featured. Ground-speed PTO keeps the shaft speed proportional to the ground speed, which is useful when pulling PTO-driven trailers, sprayers and other implements.

The standard 4-wd provides added traction. The front axle provides a 55° steering angle, ensuring solid turning capacity. The hydrostatic steering features its own pump and oil reservoir, eliminating the sharing of hydraulic power. The series offers optional front fenders.

Lift capacity

To help support hitch equipment, the MB series tractors include an open center hydraulic pump generating 13.8 gpm of hydraulic flow at two remotes. The mechanical hitch control with draft sensing provides 5,700 lbs. of lift. To help lift heavier equipment, tractors can be fitted with two optional assistor rams to increase lift capacity to 8,140 lbs.

The MB tractor series comes equipped with a 22.7-gal. fuel tank and a four-post ROPS frame.

The list prices of the MB-series tractors are as follows:

MB 55 2-wd tractor: $22,280 MB 65 2-wd tractor: $25,860 MB 65 4-wd tractor: $30,620 MB 85 2-wd tractor: $28,030 MB 85 4-wd tractor: $32,490

Prices of the following options are in addition to the list price of the tractor:

Creeper transmission: $226 Hydraulic front differential lock: $55 Hydraulic rear differential lock: $342 Front fenders for 4-wd models: $221 Two assistor rams: $320
