McCormick introduces mudders

McCormick International USA has further enhanced the McCormick tractor line by adding the all-new C-Max Mudder Series, a new range of utility tractors that offer exceptional ground clearance for many specialty crop applications.

The new Mudder tractors include three models and are available in 2WD and 4WD versions as well as cab and open station (ROPS). Models include a new high clearance front axle, axle bolster, and re-positioned rear final drive housing. Ground clearance under the front axle is 29.4 inches in the 2WD models, and 24.6 inches in the 4WD models. Ground clearance under the drawbar is 27 inches in all models.

Tire track widths can be adjusted depending on the crop's row spacing. The front and back track width ranges from 57 inches to 80 inches to accommodate row spacing between 28.7 inches and 40 inches.

“The new C-Max Mudder models are ideal for applications such as spraying, cultivating, and light field work, where ground clearance reduces the amount of crop damage,” said Chad Huyser, marketing manager for McCormick USA.

The new series ranges from 82 to 99 engine hp (73 to 88 pto hp) and utilizes the latest generation four-cylinder Perkins 1100-Series engines. The 4.4-liter engines not only meet Stage 2 Tier II emission levels, but also run more quietly, reducing bystander noise levels.

Lower running costs are an additional benefit across the C-Max Mudder Series, as the Perkins 1100-Series engines promise more economical fuel use. The new series also offers lower maintenance costs by having oil and filter changes at 500-hour intervals, rather than 300-hours, or annually, whichever comes first.

Customers can choose from three transmission options: 12+12, 24+12 with creep, and 24+12 with overdrive. All feature a dry-clutch synchronized shuttle to ensure easy operation of directional change. The shuttle lever incorporates a neutral position, ideal for operations that require periodic pauses.

The open-center hydraulic system delivers nearly 14 gpm of flow at the standard remote. Customers can choose up to four auxiliary remotes for maximum flexibility. The valves are operated by two individual levers and an optional joystick control. The joystick is dedicated to control two valves, and is ideal for operating attachments such as front-end loaders.

The C-Max Mudder features a Category II linkage, with mechanical top link hydraulic sensing that provides a maximum lift capacity of 5,733 pounds or up to 8,159 pounds with twin assistor rams at link ends.

The C-Max Mudder features a choice of 540- or 1,000-rpm pto with mechanical engagement and an independent multi-plate dry clutch. An interchangeable pto shaft allows the six-spline shaft to be replaced quickly by the 21-spline shaft. Ground-speed pto is standard on all models. Ground-speed pto is useful with pto-driven spreaders, sprayers, and other implements where it is important to keep a proportional pto to forward speed.

McCormick expects to introduce several other series of tractors, with a variety of horsepower ranges and uses in coming months. Visit to learn more about the entire line of McCormick tractors.
