Max Armstrong and Orion Samuelson offer insights from the Cattle Industry Convention, look at ag tech and get market insight

Segment 1

In spite of the weather, cattlemen showed up to the annual NCBA convention. Randy Blach, CEO, Cattlefax, talked with max about the cattle market and profits. He mentioned that feed yards are full, and for the most part, all segments of the cattle industry are doing well.

Orion Samuelson and Max Armstrong look at markets with Greg Grow, Archer Financial Services, where they discuss how the weather is impacting the markets. He also asked Grow about the missing crop reports during the shutdown and how you move forward with marketing. Grow says a lot of expectation is built up, but we kind of know what we’re looking for. He’ll be watching South American crop reports very closely. Grow also offered an outlook for planting intentions and fertilizer prices and usage.

Segment 2

Orion Samuelson and Max Armstrong continue their conversation with Greg Grow, Archer Financial Services, who talks ethanol markets, and says there’s a lot of room for growth. He also talks about the EU and the U.S. and increasing U.S. ag and tech imports. Grow adds that there haven’t been a lot of changes to USMCA, but it has to get through Congress. He also says that the most important reports coming will be with planting intentions in late March.

Chad Colby talks about CES and the amazing showcase of technology. John Deere was there, educating consumers about ag tech.

Jay Myers, USB director from North Dakota, talked with Max about ag technology, from what you can’t live without to data use and management, as well as the new Tech Tool Shed website from USB.

Segment 3

Delaney Howell talks about Farmers Business Network with Charles Barron, FBN co-founder.

Al Gustin reports on technology replacing some jobs, but not all, leaving agriculture looking for employees. There are plenty of jobs to be had in the ag sector. Lindsey Novak, Bismarck State Colllege, and Mason Kuntz, ag student, talk about finding jobs in ag before even graduating.

Segment 4

Max Armstrong is back from New Orleans at NCBA. At the convention, they talked a lot about Washington. Colin Woodall, senior VP, NCBA, offered insight on the shift in congress, as well as the impact of the nutrition title in the farm bill.

Arlen Hildebrand, Prestige Trailers, talks with Max Armstrong about the company in another Best of Farm Progress Show report.

Greg Soulje shares insight about the cold weather out west.

Greg Soulje continues his weather report, offering a look at weather for the week ahead.

Segment 6

In Max's Tractor Shed, Max Armstrong highlights a 1971 Allis-Chalmers 210, owned by Tristen Miller, Derby, Iowa. The owner even has the manual and delivery record.

The FFA Chapter Tribute spotlights Clintonville FFA chapter in Clintonville, Wis. They do many activities, including a roadside cleanup, petting zoo and greenhouse. Chapter Member Emma Heineman talks about fundraising activities.

In Samuelson Sez, Orion shares reaction from viewers who responded when he challenged lawmakers to grow up in last week’s segment.

Segment 7

Max Armstrong in another report from NCBA, talks about the Beef Board. Particularly about listening and being active on social media. Joan Ruskamp, outgoing chairman, Cattlemen’s Beef Board, says you can either bombard positive messages or be sensitive. We’re connecting with consumers about beef, she says.
