Max Armstrong says that while there is significant food waste, most of it isn’t in our homes. A good percentage of the food grown isn’t even sold. More than 60 percent takes place on farms, ranches, manufacturing operations and restaurants and grocery stores, according to the Food and Agriculture Alliance. They’d like to see something in the farm bill to use food as efficiently as possible. The current bill contains language about food waste. The alliance would like to see a program for food waste production in the next bill. Biotechnology could offer opportunities to reduce food waste.
