This is the third year of the MarketMaxx game, which this year is sponsored by AGCO Gleaner, AGCO, Syngenta Crop Protection and Cargill Certified SolutionPro.

MarketMaxx 2007 players will each receive a simulated 100,000 bu. of corn and simulated 50,000 bu. of soybeans. Using Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) futures and options, forward contracts and other marketing tools, players can make trades daily from the time the contest begins January 2, 2007, through midnight October 31, 2007, when it ends.

At that time, participants who have sold their total allotted corn and soybeans at the highest average price will be the winners. The grand prize for the corn contest is one year's use of a Gleaner R5 or A5 series combine, not to exceed 100 combine separator hours. Grand prize in the soybean contest is one year's use of an AGCO RT or DT series tractor, not to exceed 250 tractor engine hours. The second-place prize for each category is a complete computer system plus software from Syngenta Crop Protection.

The contest guides participants through writing their own MarketMaxx plan, or even a real-world marketing plan, then helps them follow moves of the three most recent CBOT corn and soybean trading months.

Players can go to to make their trades through a secure user name/password system and measure how their trades stack up against leaders in the corn and soybean contests. The site is a good place to view market commentary on CBOT movements, local, regional and national price basis, and international trade that can impact corn and soybean prices.

Players also receive a biweekly MarketMaxx e-newsletter designed to keep them informed about game leaders, market movement, corn and soybean production and marketing news.

The goal of MarketMaxx 2007 is to help farmers improve their marketing skills by taking advantage of the many marketing tools available. If playing MarketMaxx can help a producer gain an extra $0.25 to $0.50/bu. on a 150 bu./acre corn crop, that's up to an extra $75/acre in added return. There are no guarantees that added income will result, but at least players should have a better idea of how to put together a good marketing plan, then follow it, depending on which way the market turns up or down.
