Got your 2018 grain marketing plan all figures out? If there’s room to hone your marketing plan and you have a couple of hours to invest, take advantage of one of five southeast Pennsylvania marketing sessions during the second week of January. Penn State Extension will host afternoon or evening sessions at five locations to help producers think out marketing plans for their remaining 2017 crops.
The guest grain analyst for these sessions will be Dave Fogel, vice president of Advance Trading, Inc., a commodity brokerage firm providing risk management and market guidance. He works with clients from Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia and focuses on price risk management. Here are the sites and times for the “What should I do with my 2017 bushels?” sessions:
• Monday, Jan. 8, 12 p.m.: Country Cupboard Restaurant, 101 Hafer Road., Lewisburg, Pa.

• Wednesday, Jan 10, 12 p.m.: Hoss’s Steak and Sea House, 1151 Harrisburg Pike, Carlisle, Pa.
Penn State Extension Educator John Berry urges you to come up with at least a ballpark number for your 2017 per bushel production costs. And going into 2018, what are your projected corn, soybean and wheat breakeven prices? Those answers will be very relevant to your price risk management.
