If you live in the Midwest or Plains, It’s only natural to see some snow and colder temperatures in the winter. But the weather this month has started out on a particularly severe streak that left the agriculture industry with a bevy of logistical problems.
Ice on the river can disrupt barge traffic, for example. That one might be fairly obvious, but did you know some ethanol plants are selling their own stocks of natural gas? That’s because prices have shot up so much from increased demand that doing so is a fairly lucrative practice at the moment.
The frigid February weather has affected grain prices as well – particularly winter wheat, a crop currently at risk of winterkill damage. But weather has not been the only market mover this week. We also talked about acreage expectations for 2021 and much more.
