Corn and soybean conditions drop again

The conditions may have fallen, but the maturity remains ahead of schedule

The USDA reports corn conditions fell two points across the United States. According to the crop progress report, 68% of the corn is in good/excellent condition. That’s down two points from last week.

Here are the good/excellent conditions in the top five corn producing states: Iowa (73%), Illinois (76%), Nebraska (84%), Minnesota (74%), Kansas (46%). Conditions fell three points in Minnesota; two points in Iowa and one point in Kansas.

Soybean conditions

The USDA report showed 65% of the soybeans in good/excellent condition. That’s down a point from last week.  This week, here are the good/excellent conditions in the top five soybean producing states: Illinois (74%), Iowa (70%), Minnesota (67%), Nebraska (81%), North Dakota (54%). Conditions fell in North Dakota by 8 points; Minnesota by 6 points; and two points in Iowa.

Setting pods

The soybean crop maturity is also ahead of the average. The report shows 91% of the crop setting pods—That’s up from the four-year average of 83%.

Corn dough

The USDA crop progress report shows 85% of the corn planted is in the dough stage. That’s up from the four-year average of 72%.

Corn dented

There is no doubt, corn maturity is ahead this year. The USDA reports 44% of the crop is in the dented stage. That’s up from the four-year average of 26%.
