This week's Ag View Pitch shares insight into the $19 billion from USDA, which may have gaps for some parts of agriculture.

April 20, 2020

USDA announced a $19 billion COVID-19 Farm Aid Package late April 17. Agriculture has many places to distribute that money, so much so that many will be left disappointed. In a world where trillions of support are distributed, this farm aid package is not as exceptional as the events impacting agriculture at this time.

Yet, there is no industry that enters each production cycle with more hope and optimism than agriculture. It is springtime, a time of new beginnings, optimism and the hope of a bountiful harvest. When you plant a seed, you can choose to focus on the coolness and darkness surrounding your seed, or you can choose to look to the sun and know that its power will not be denied. Now is the time to look upward and to walk in confidence and to be driven by hope.

Chris Barron, who's in the field, talks with Duane Lowry about the aid, and the start of a new marketing week as weather may be turning in the favor or more planters rolling in the days ahead. Watching basis and looking at ways to move old crop corn and soybeans may be the best short-term play.
