The 2022 North American Manure Expo will be July 13-14 in Chambersburg, Pa.

Nutrients and soil health benefits provided by manure are more desirable than ever because of high fertilizer prices, and NAME will highlight the latest manure handling and utilization technologies.

This will be the first manure expo on the East Coast since 2015 and will be held as an in-person event for the first time in three years. The Chambersburg location allows easy access from a wide geographic area. When last held at this location, NAME attracted 2,000 people from 26 states.

Manure handling on the farm

The event kicks off with two morning tours July 13. The robotic dairy tour will take participants to a dairy that uses robotic systems to feed, milk and collect manure. The tour will then proceed to the new Blue Springs layer facility of Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch. The 2.3-million-layer facility is under construction and will not populate with birds until August, so recent disease concerns within the poultry industry will not affect tour scheduling. This is a unique opportunity for people to see the production and manure handling technologies in a modern, nearly complete farm.

Another tour will be led by Penn State water Extension specialists. This tour will visit a stream in an agricultural landscape to learn about recently installed buffer and restoration projects. The tour then will proceed to headland waters where stream health indicators and aquatic life will be explored. Both tours have limited bus space and require registration at manureexpo.org.

Manure agitation

Later on July 13, there will be a manure agitation demonstration. Those interested in seeing vendors demonstrate their latest liquid manure agitation equipment can board buses at the NAME show grounds for transport to a local dairy to witness over-the-wall and boat agitation.

Additionally, the first day will feature open show grounds and educational sessions, including a session entitled “Pump School,” which will be valuable to anyone who pumps liquid manure.

Second day highlights

July 14 is the main exposition day and kicks off at 8 a.m. with an educational session lineup.

National experts will bring their expertise to these sessions, and vendors will be available all day to discuss their technologies.

NAME provides an opportunity for people to “kick the tires” and to witness side-by-side manure application demonstrations. Solid manure application demonstrations will begin at 10:30 a.m., and liquid application demonstrations will begin at 2 p.m. A live-action manure spill response demonstration is planned immediately after the liquid application demonstrations.

NAME will provide plenty of credit opportunities for certified crop advisers, nutrient management plan writers, and certified manure haulers and brokers.

A fun manure expo tradition includes the top 10 rejected manure expo slogans. Information on slogan contributions can be found on the event website.

Be part of the movement and come to the North American Manure Expo to see what slogans make this year’s T-shirt. It is a consistently solid event.
