World Ag Expo 2011, Tools for Agri-Business, will host a new five-part series of seminars on safety and advocacy on Thursday, Feb. 10. The seminars are presented in conjunction with the California Farm Bureau and Farm Employers Labor Service, and will be held at the Seminars Center on the show grounds. The Safety and Advocacy seminar schedule is:

• Labor Law Compliance for Farmers at 9 a.m. will feature speakers Bryan Little of Farm Employers Labor Service and Ron Barsamian, Barsamian & Moody. The seminar will address questions regarding compliance with state and federal laws, how to ensure compliance and how to expect when state and federal enforcers make a site visit.

• Agricultural Equipment Safety at 10:15 a.m. will feature John Barrientos from the Farm Employers Labor Service. This seminar will provide important information regarding hazards that are common to all mobile equipment on the farm, which can be used to better train workers on work safety.

• Keep on Trucking at 11:30 a.m. will feature Cynthia Cory, director of Environmental Affairs with the California Farm Bureau Federation . This seminar will offer an update on the California Air Resources Board (ARB) on-road diesel truck and bus rule.

• The Farm Bill and its Impact on California Farmers at 12:45 p.m. will feature speakers Josh Rolph, director of International Trade, Farm Policy, Taxation & Plant Health and Elisa Noble, director of Natural Resources & Public Lands for the Califronia Farm Bureau Federation. This seminar will provide a dynamic overview of the 2008 Farm Bill provisions that could impact California farmers. The presentation will also expand upon current discussions regarding development of the 2012 Farm Bill.

• What's in Store with the New Congress and How Will the Changes Affect California Agriculture?" at 2 p.m. will be presented by Jack King, manager of the National Affairs and Research Division of the California Farm Bureau Federation. He will report on the outlook for trade, immigration, health care, climate change/energy, environmental and farm bill legislation, tax and spending measures in the new Congress.

The 44th annual World Ag Expo 2011, Tools for Agri-Business, will run Feb. 8-10 at the International Agri-Center show grounds in Tulare, Calif. An estimated annual average of 100,000 attendees from 72 countries are expected to attend World Ag Expo this year.
