The sixth annual Wheat & Meat Symposium will offer producers an opportunity to evaluate important factors to consider in the 2010 wheat crop, according to Texas AgriLife Extension Service personnel.

The meeting will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Miami Community Center in Miami.

This program will also mark the beginning of a year-long series of events looking at beef cattle reproduction, said Kyle Barnett, AgriLife Extension agent in Hemphill County, and Brandon Dukes, AgriLife Extension agent in Roberts County.

“The reproduction efficiency of your cow herd is critically important to your overall profitability,” Dukes said. “Setting realistic goals and defining your calving season are the first steps that must be taken in order to increase efficiency.”

-- Factors to consider for wheat in 2010, Dr. Brent Bean, AgriLife Extension agronomist, Amarillo.

-- Insect pests of wheat, Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist, Amarillo.

-- Beef cattle reproductive goals, Dukes.

-- Defining your calving season, Dr. Ted McCollum, AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist, Amarillo.

-- The cost of infertility in beef cattle, Patrick Warminski, AgriLife Extenion risk management specialist, Amarillo.

Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units (two general, one integrated pest management) will be offered.
