The deadline for the "We Believe in Growing" scholarship, Friday, Jan. 14, is rapidly approaching. World Ag Expo and E.M. Tharp Inc. have teamed up for a fifth year to provide the "We Believe in Growing" scholarship, created to further support agriculture education.

High school seniors from Madera, Fresno, Tulare, Kings and Kern counties are encouraged to apply. Two $10,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who attend a four-year university to major in an agricultural field. The scholarships will be disbursed over four years at $2,500 per year, per student.

"Last year's program brought in 34 applicants," said Vester East, E.M. Tharp, Inc. "The list of applicants was narrowed to 10 finalists and, after meeting with all of the candidates, the two winners were selected."

The E.M. Tharp scholarship currently supports eight students, four attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and four attending California State University, Fresno. "Casey Tharp created the foundation for today's scholarships," East explained. "Giving back to Valley communities by assisting agricultural students has been an important goal for E.M. Tharp Inc. We are proud to be a part of the program and, even in these economic times, E.M. Tharp is moving forward with our promise to students."

For scholarship consideration, students must submit two letters of recommendation, one copy of their high school transcripts and ACT or SAT scores by Friday, Jan. 14.
