The United Sorghum Checkoff Program (USCP) has launched an online collection of research articles in conjunction with Texas Tech University, through the Great Plains Sorghum Initiative. The Sorghum Research Database will give producers an avenue to search and view thousands of research articles.

“I’m glad to see this database available through the work of the Sorghum Checkoff,” said Earl Roemer, sorghum producer and USCP Research Committee Chair. “There are so many great resources available here; you can search articles on using sorghum as a feed for livestock and bio-energy, as well as articles on breeding and production. It will be a very useful tool for me as a producer.”

This Sorghum Research Database is available online at www.sorghumcheckoff.com under the Sorghum Research tab, where anyone may search by keyword or choose a category from the drop-down menu. This checkoff funded project is updated with new articles every day and, when complete, will house around 5,000 research articles. Producers can search around 700 full articles now, with many more to come. Some articles include external links to university or organization web sites so growers can go a step further than just reading a research article.

“This database allows anyone who is interested in sorghum to search hundreds of articles quickly and efficiently,” said USPC Research Director, Jeff Dahlberg. “In addition to being a producer resource, this tool grants access to an abundance of information about sorghum.”

Dahlberg said that this is a great tool for researchers. This database will give them the advantage of having many years of articles in one place. It will prevent scientists from re-inventing the wheel in sorghum research, so that the technology gap between sorghum and other crops can be minimized.

The United Sorghum Checkoff Program is a producer funded organization that is dedicated to improving the sorghum industry through research, promotion and education. For more information about the USCP please visit www.sorghumcheckoff.com.
