The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation’s Agricultural Division will host two white-tailed deer management workshops in September. The first will be on Wednesday, Sept. 17, and the second on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

The workshops, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5:20 p.m., are open to the public and will provide insight into deer management practices. Participation in the workshops is limited to the first 40 registrants, and preregistration is encouraged.

Staff from the Noble Foundation, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and Oklahoma Cooperative Extension will discuss topics such as deer biology (including facts, myths and misconceptions), habitat, food habits, population management, state programs, antler development, deer health and deer management associations. The workshops will include work stations that highlight deer food plant identification, how to age deer, and how to measure and score antlers.

“These are hands-on workshops designed to address many aspects of deer biology and management,” said Steven Smith, Noble Foundation wildlife and fisheries consultant. “We cover several major topics and provide a wealth of information for both novices and experienced managers. If we don’t touch on a particular issue, attendees will have the opportunity to interact with Noble Foundation wildlife consultants and specialists, an Oklahoma Extension veterinarian and a state agency biologist to get answers to the questions for their specific situations.”

The Sept. 17 workshop will take place at Mid-America Technology Center at Wayne on Highway 59 just west of Interstate 35. The second workshop, scheduled for Sept. 23, will be held at the Double D Ranch in Stephens County.

Registration for either white-tailed deer management workshop is $15 and includes lunch. To register for a workshop or for more information, contact Tracy Cumbie at 580.224.6411 or by e-mail at [email protected], or visit www.noble.org/agevents.
