A review of new sugarcane varieties and field tours on weed control, insect management and disease management will be featured at the annual sugarcane field day July 15 at the LSU AgCenter’s Sugar Research Station in St. Gabriel, according to Kenneth Gravois, resident coordinator at the station.

Along with field tours, Ben Legendre, LSU AgCenter sugarcane specialist, will present a sugarcane burning update and Mike Salassi, LSU AgCenter economist, will review rules in the new farm bill.

In addition, Jay Grymes, LSU AgCenter climatologist, will offer a program on hurricanes in south Louisiana.

Registration for the field day will begin at 8 a.m. with field tours starting at 9 a.m.

The Sugar Research Station is located in St. Gabriel on Louisiana Highway 30, 11 miles south of Tiger Stadium and 9 miles north of Gonzales.

A sponsored lunch will be provided at noon. Further information is available by calling the station at (225) 642 8105.
