Kansas State University researchers will be joined by scientists from Texas A&M University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Tuesday, Aug. 4, to present a Subsurface Drip Irrigation Technology Field Day. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be at K-State´s Northwest Research-Extension Center at 105 Experiment Farm Road in Colby, Kan.

The day is part of a year-long, collaborative SDI Technology Transfer effort being conducted by K-State Research and Extension, Texas AgriLife and the USDA. Texas A&M´s AgriLife program will be sponsoring a similar event Aug. 25 in Halfway, Texas.

The Colby event also marks the 20th anniversary of K-State´s efforts with SDI for field crops, said Freddie Lamm, K-State irrigation engineer and field day coordinator.

Preregistration is required by July 28 to help with meal planning. The 2:30 to 9 p.m. event will feature a field tour, poster discussions, refreshments, an SDI producers´ panel, and a free meal.

The tour will be offered twice at 2:30 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 8:45 p.m. Field tour stops will cover such topics as: "Comparison of SDI with Alternative Irrigation Methods," "Corn Management with SDI to Save Water Resources," "Application of Biological Effluent with SDI," "SDI and Alfalfa," and "Research Facilities and SDI Wetting Pattern."

A trade show will run throughout the day and vendors will be available to discuss SDI-related equipment.
