It’s been a tough year for trees, not only for new growth, but for survival. The Forestry Field Day, set for Oct. 11 at the Southwest Research and Extension Center in Hope, Ark., will address pine seedling survival and other timber issues with discussions and hands-on activities.

On the agenda for discussion are sampling to determine pine seedling survival rates and weedy competition, as well as thinning pine strands. Following the presentations, participants will move to the Spencer tract for hands-on exercises with seedling sampling and stand thinning.

Lunch will be served, followed by two additional presentations: one on timber security and another on timber sales.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with presentations beginning at 9:00 a.m. Cost to attend is $10 per person in advance, or $15 the day of the field day. For more information, contact Jon Barry at (870) 777-9702.
